Living comfortably with bunions.
A hallux abducto valgus deformity, commonly called a bunion, is a change in position of the big toe and 1st metatarsal. This causes an angle and therefore a protrusion medially on the forefoot. Skin over this protrusion can become irritated, red, painful and inflamed due to the pressure of shoes, pain can be experienced when walking and bunions certainly make shoe fitting difficult. Our podiatrists at Podiatry on Plenty Road can give you advice and education on how to live more comfortably with your bunions, and if it is appropriate a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon may be required.
